WHOA

I slept for a month...but good god this album is hard. Plus he picked like 5 of the top 10 unused Dilla beats.

  1. The Slick Rick appearance is not what it could've been (even though I love that track), but that's about the closest thing I've got to a complaint. Well, that and a couple of the most lackluster Method Man verses I've ever heard... But yeah, not a bad beat on it. I felt like Rae was really the star of 8 Diagrams in the end, and here he is upholding that same standard of quality for like twice as many tracks. As an added bonus, Deck's all over this one and seemingly back in top form.

  2. the appeal of wu-tang to me has always been that it sounds like a room full of people who are more stoned than i could ever hope to be, but being trapped in that room with just one (or two) of them just isn't that cool. raekwon always especially annoyed me, but ghostface just needs to shut the fuck up. he's always on the verge of whining and he's put out like an album a year.

  3. Blasphemy.
No, I can see your point, I like the metaphor. I just think it's really interesting the different WAYS they're stoned... and Ghost is really just like a 60's or 70's Atlantic records artist except he writes his own lyrics and is very up-front about how much cocaine helps him to do that.

  4. To each his own. Kool G Rap, Ghost and Rae go down as all-time best emcees. No other rappers have stayed that dope, relevant, and consistent for almost two decades (other than Doom, but he took half a decade off).

  5. Definitely wasn't knockin' Ghost there... I just meant to say that he has the same sort of classic, vaguely mournful appeal to me as a lot of old soul vocalists... Actually, I think his consistency is one of the only drawbacks- all the post-Supreme Clientele tracks are (uniformly great, but) pretty much interchangeable, except for some of the topical references, although I haven't heard Ghost-Dini, yet, admittedly.
