'Bout time (?)

So, new Plaid, huh? I had half given up on this happening. In a way, I'm not sure it actually has, I mean check the link if you haven't heard this new track already. It kinda does everything I would ever think to ask of Plaid, but minus the, I guess, "oomph?" Dunno, sounds more like an innocuous intro or segue, like they normally drop on album right before they totally ball out. Not sure of it as a lead single, at any rate.

    Totally, 100% bangin' bangers, but they're still from an EP and basically a compilation, and both are 5-10 yrs. old. A couple Japanese film scores aside (although I heartily recommend Tekkon Kinkreet), the last proper Plaid album was (the criminally-under-rated-but-admittedly-not-first-class) Spokes in, I'm pretty sure, 2003. What I really hope is that we ultimately get a sincere return to form, and not just a case of Ed Handley needing to find a way to pay for Jordans and weed.

    Yeah, I know those are old, I was just saying those are a couple of the last few really spectacular tracks I can remember. I didn't care for Spokes much, but may I should go listen to it again. Maybe when I'm done moving I'll dig through all my CDs that have been boxed up for about 4 years and listen to all that old shit.

    Spokes grows on you after a while. I remember it seemed pretty sterile on first listen without their whole classical-guitar-and-sounds-of-the-rainforest schtick to inform it, but now I get it out around Christmas every year. Certainly more memorable than much of Greedy Baby, much as I hate to say it. But fdon't sweat getting out old CDs- putting this post together I found a bunch of Plaid tracks on youtube that I'd never heard before, and I was pretty sure that I knew their catalog pretty well.
