I can vouch for Fennesz (sometimes), Flying Lotus, Vibesquad... Machinedrum is supposedly from Hickory. I haven't heard anything past his first couple albums but I really liked those sometimes.
this is stuff i would make it a point to see: flying lotus low limit modeselektor mount kimbie nosaj thing pfadfinderei (although he's probably just performing with modeselektor) starkey untold
and stuff that might be good: distance faltydl mux mool oneohtrix point never machinedrum sepalcure tim hecker (i like his music, but seeing him live was kind of boring)
of all of the above, i would probably especially make it a point to see modeselektor, because their shit is bonkers and videos i've seen of their live shows were rad. they have this guy, pfadfinderei, who does video stuff for them, in case you get tired of looking at two krauts standing behind laptops.
i just threw this list together, but with electronic music it's so hard to tell who's going to be fun live and who's going to be completely fucking boring.
believe it or not, i know people in Kansas that be jizzin on flying lotus (and there isn't much electronic music around here, just hipsters who like to use computers in their rock bands), like it was the first time they ever looked at a hustler mag
I have seen machinedrum and he puts on a good show, and he is a nice guy too. If you see him at the show, you could totally strike up a conversation with him about NC, cause he is from Hickory.
You should buy a full access pass, get a hotel room in walking distance, and loose your mind for a few days. It would be like an urban jam band festival.
Dan Bell....do not sleep on him. Saw him perform live as DBX a few years ago in Detroit and I can still feel the bass in my gut. Also all the stuff I have heard from Teebs so far has been really good. His album drops on Brainfeeder next month. And I resonate the notion to catch Mount Kimbie and Modeselektor. Modeselektor kills it live (seen 'em twice) and I'll be forever jealous that you got to see Mount Kimbie. They are only playing like 4 or 5 US dates.
i had to go to nc to see family...pretty dissappointed i couldn't make it, but also broke, so it's good i didn't spend $300 on whiskey and designer drugs at a 3 day techno festival.
i heard headhunter/addison's groove (same guy) did a live set that included an 808 and it was intense.
FLYING LOTUS
ReplyDeleteMOUNT KIMBIE
MACHINEDRUM
if I had to choose three at first glance.

there's a lot to choose from, and a lot of it would probly be great, but don't miss these three:
ReplyDeleteflying lotus
modeselektor
mount kimbie
they are the biggest names on the bill for a reason.

It would be worth it just to see carl craig and kevin saunderson.
