failed as in people didn't agree that dropp is indeed electronic music? Or did you get an F from the teacher? Or fail in the sense that the folks in your class just didn't understand? If the latter was the case, then you came well short of failure.
Did your class just write it off as "techno" so they wouldn't have to pay attention to it? Too many people are automatically bored by anything that smacks of "techno" in the same way that those same people are always automatically offended when they hear "rap." But if this is a grad level class, they must've had less dumb reasons?
so i presented and was trying to explain that this was a point of divergence for them, a precursor to moving into a more complex and abstract territory of sound. the comments were brief and we moved onto the next tune without much futher debate. i agree with gray that this was a fairly conventional track, but i was planning on playing a song off of draft to define the trajectory of their work. some of the other presentations included: radiohead (laskin sample) animal collective->see newer post some contemporary classical composer bullshit a not so great prefuse track that flaming lips record with four discs to be played simulataneously.......... and this http://www.da-crouton.com BAD
hmm....again, gray, i did consider just dropping some merzbow, i do think we're going to cover masami akita's work later on in the class.
(i typed a whole response then my internet got fuxord and i don't remember what all it said...thankyou brooklyn summer ale!)
