asheville: ghey or not ghey?

i can't tell anymore. it's been about 4 years since i was in asheville. it seems like asheville takes cool stuff and makes it gay, but then again, at least the cool stuff makes its way there. you don't see this type of thing anywhere else in north cakalak:

the only name i've heard on there is eliot lipp and he's purty good.

i'm sure this guy will be there, too:

  1. I guarantee that half of those acts are jam bands. Hippies ruin everything.

  2. I have seen Somni-Suite before. Inoffensive, ultimately boring ersatz Battles/Don Cab/Tortoise with some post Vocal Studies (read: suspect) Prefuse for good measure. Meh. Asheville's actually got good electronic music (remember that John Brinker dude, just for starters?), and those people will be boycotting this, I bet.
PS I just noticed it's at the fucking HOOKAH BAR LOLOLOLOL

  3. I don't know... I think you *do* see that kind of thing elsewhere in NC. Just perhaps not phrased exactly that way. I'm talking only slightly less ghey than "XXXXXPLOSION RAVE 8ZILLION feat. DIESEL BOY, MURDA CLIPS, and 4L8R, only $85 at CLUB MIXXXXXXXXX, come dance your fuk awA". I mean, look at how they destroyed the Tron poster.

I'm thinking Raleigh and C.H. are the next most likely places to see this kind of thing. Brian?

  5. west west yall, NC be the hot spot for your body moving punk asses. Kakalak. I saw some good shows, and some very very odd show situations of really good acts. I saw Drum Machine with like 15 people there(Hhe watched my set the night before at this electronic music fest called Signal, and he didn't seem too impressed, but neither did I, and neither the the mini bottles of Jim Beam that I have to drink before I perform live.. Autechre dropped through A town a long time ago. Hit up Prefuse in CH, almost didn't get in, I had to stand in line and as people left, the bouncer dude let a person in. I got in half way through the 1st song. I saw cock rock disco dude Jason Forest for like 15 people and dude and the Assdroids stayed at my house that night cause they didn't want to sleep in their car. I really enjoyed the Little Brother Show in CH, I two fisted Newcastle and danced until I was sweaty all over, then woke up, puked and went to work at 7am the next day, one of the best shows I ever sawed. There was a bunch of other good shit that came through but I didn't see cause I was busy being me. A lot. Some shit I heard about after the fact. But the scene was in tha Thrill. Those indy rock radio station kids have to throw their EM/RPM/IDM weight around if they want to have any friends in tha Thrill. I didn't have friends in the Hill, I just showed up, twisted knobs, drank too much, talked too much smack, had the dude who does the booking at one of the clubs in tha Thrill girl all about my MJ remix and the dance that goes with it live, so much so that I had to pull teeth to even play on Tuesday night cause old boy was not feeling my style. Don't hate the CJ, just hate the dance. Shorty you don't know.

Panther played a show in Kansas right before I got here. I was bemused.
