i could be way late on this, but........

steinvord

if this is not rdj, it is a very adept copycat.

it's almost too weird to not be him.

  1. after minor internet research the rumor mill proposes that this is not mr. james. the similarities are astounding and the tracks are quite precious.

  2. I'm slightly inclined toward it being a competent imitator myself. It has some pronounced Aphex-ish tendencies, but it doesn't sound new enough (also possible Squarepusher sampling in the appropriately titled 'maelstrom'). Like, you knew that Tuss shit was him IMMEDIATELY because it was all Analords on Steroids. What I'm hearing here has this '97 era feel that doesn't feel continuous with the last (ostensibly) verifiable RDJ output. Unless these are Come To Daddy-era outtakes from the vault (and he had an advance copy of Go Plastic even then), this is just somebody who's had awhile to study that style.

  4. Very Analord-y... The crazy made-up syntax of the project and track name.. Hmm. I guess with the myth of Aphex that we all love, the tank, the bank, the hassling club-goers in Donkey Rhubarb bear suits, etc. it's not much of a leap to imagine he's got tracks dumped on a thousand myspace pages, waiting for one to pop off like the Tuss did, maybe even decoy tracks to throw us all off or induce drunken, pompously authoritative rants like mine above. and he's following the whole debate with a crazy home-built RSS reading remote-controlled speak/n.spell that talks in Madonna's voice AND folds vintage track suits perfectly every time, and there's a little square of blotter just stuck to each of the literally hundreds of teeth in his giant, insane ear-to-ear grin.

  5. This is just a gut reaction, but I think it's highly more likely that is a Venetian Snares alias where he takes the half-satirical, half-deferential idea behind "British IDM Preset Fanfare" (on 2370894) and spins a bunch of other shit out of it.

Needless to say, if I'm right there will be 1,821 Steinvold EPs and LPs out by April.
